LET's turn people's lives around, New Zealand!
On average 60,000 students are attending New Zealand high schools every year with reading ages of only 5-8 years. Immigrants (where English is a second language), offenders and beneficiaries also typically illiterate.
The Literacy Education Trust has been formed to combat this problem by providing funding for organisations to implement, and individuals to access, the About Words Literacy Remediation Programme - when they cannot fund it themselves.
We believe that New Zealand can be 100% literate. Surprisingly this statement is often controversial. Instituations think they have tried everything too. Read on ... the About Words Literacy Remedication Programme delivers astonishing results!
We have an effective solution: LET's adopt it.
About Words teaches people of all ages to read and spell effectively within eighteen months. This programme has proven that it works with success at Cambridge High School, success with over 300 individuals of all ages, and success with different teachers at the helm.
This structured approach to teaching literacy - reading and spelling - is working for people of all ages who thought they had tried everything yet still could not read. This programme has worked for many people who had previously been told they would never learn to read.
About Words trains teachers to deliver the About Words Literacy Remediation Programme, implements the About Words Literacy Remediation Programme within organisations, and provides individuals access to an About Words Literacy Remediation Programme.
The Literacy Education Trust simply sorts out the funding for those that cannot afford to pay for it themselves.
The Literacy Education Trust and About Words are now lobbying the New Zealand Government to adopt the About Words Literacy Remediation Programme within all schools, all teacher training institutions, all transition programmes, and all adult literacy education programmes.
